Sorry for the delay in postings, folks, but the BOVB staff has been on a combination of vacation and furloughs as we try to reinvent the blog reading experience. Our editors have been fanning out across the nation attending cutting-edge seminars designed to make your visit to the BOVB a more meaningful and exciting one.

That said, we know many of our contributors have been a bit flustered lately with the lack of posts. Rest easy, we have all your pix and will start posting them more regularly as the most important season of the year -- college football -- nears.

This'n here was submitted July 12 via Facebook by Anna Adams, who spotted it (I believe) in California, or at least somewhere out there on the Left Coast. "This Orange baby is perfect for sharing a nice top-down summer ride with that 'special someone,'" she said. "Or, a balls to the wall night time swamp bogging expedition."

BIG BOVB spotted by super sleuth

Man, you gotta love these old-timey pre-SUV SUVs. BOVB's roving correspondent Clay Logan spotted it parked in the front yard of a Jacksonville mobile home recently. Kudos to Clay for seeing it, snapping a pic and sending it in to the BOVB! (WTG, dude!)

BTW, Clay is our youngest correspondent to date, which a) makes him really cool and b) should send a message to parents everywhere that their kids should be contributing to an awesome cause like the BOVB.

Sweet Old, Orange Tractor

So I was gonna do laundry then realized I needed to post this awesome Orange tractor instead.

I stole the photo from the BOVB's new Indianapolis Correspondent, Dave, who posted it on Facebook. Here's what he reported about the vehicle:

"I got this in 1996, it is a 1954 Allis Chalmers WD45 wide front end, power take off, pulley, and 'snap-coupler' (a forerunner to the more popular 3-point hitch.) This was a POWERFUL tractor for it's size and made easy work plowing three rows back when two rows at a time was standard. 45 HP four cylinder straight gas engine was standard but you could get it in diesel or liquid propane. It had an adjustable draw bar that would raise or lower depending on the load that it was encountering. I got this from the original owner to use clearing and leveling our property before we built our house here in Zionsville. I used it to cut grass, haul rocks, clear snow, grade our driveway, plow a garden, and pull a float in a parade. "

Sweet. And on top of all that, it's Orange. Dave may be sending more pix along. When he does, I'll post them.

Those of you fortunate enough to have been following the BOVB for the past couple of years (the blog'll turn 3 in January 2012) may remember this oldie-but-goodie OV: a 1950something Chevy. Clearly Orange. It's been posted here before (not sure of the date) but since most of the BOVB staff is on vacation for the summer, and since I found this baby sitting outside my YMCA on Sunday, figured I'd snap a pic and re-run it. Enjoy.

Went to Miami-Dade for a couple days this week on a biz trip, and saw a TON of OVs. In fact it was one of the most common vehicle color types I saw down there. These pix are just a fraction of what I saw in the City of Orange Vehicles. Awesome.

Sand tank . . . ?

Yes, that's what this thing is called, according to the BOVB's Colonial Correspondent Logan Lark up on the Delaware seashore. "This is a sand tank (someone just told me)," Logan said in his dispatch.

The blog's research department has confirmed that, like the post just below, this marks the first "sand tank" in BOVB history. Thanks Logan.

Yes, I have LOTS to do this morning. It is 6:57 a.m. and I need to be out the door at 7:30 a.m. Between now and then I need to fill in an exam key answer sheet, take a shower, have some breakfast. Oh, I guess it would be good to get dressed, too. But first: an OV blog.

If you've been sending me pix and not seeing them posted (you know who you are) be assured I am grateful and will get them up. I am just hoarding stuff to get me through to football season (Go Vols, woot!).

So I got all inspired to post just now when I saw this beautiful OV in an e-mail from TU photographer Bruce Lipsky. Bruce used to be a Gators fan, but it's my opinion that all his shooting for the BOVB has swayed him to the side of True Orange. And this pickemuptruck definitely makes me want to get my Rocky Top on.

There's no doubt this is a very cool vehicle. It's a T-45 Goshawk, the US Navy and Marine Corps jet trainer. This particular copy was spotted at an air show 3/26/11 by our faithful Yulee correspondent. But is it Orange and White or Red and White? Gator fans call this Orange. We don't think so.

Yeah yeah, Tennessee lost to Georgia in basketball today but since when did SEC people start caring about basketball? The answer: only when their football teams started to suck. But I say that rather than become like UNC or Duke fans, who have no choice but to like hoops because their conferences inhale on the gridiron, let's rediscover other sports that, like football, are way realer. Like, for instance, baseball. College baseball rocks. Always has. And guess what, Vols fans: Tennessee opened its season with an awesome win.

Ok enough about that. How about this AWESOME OV?? This classic GMC SUV was spotted by my friend and fellow Tennessee grad Jeff Campbell somewheres in Texas.

And they say nothing good comes from Texas. Well, this here proves that wrong.

Signs of intelligence in GA??

It's a little bit blurry and obviously a small file, reminiscent of those grainy spy photos of Soviet fighter planes from the Cold War.

And this has the same potential impact, culturally speaking. This Tennessee-Orange dune buggy was spotted in Georgia and offers yet one more sign that people in and from Georgia might be developing some class. Of course, we wouldn't want to jump to conclusions about our Bulldog friends, even optimistic conclusions.

Yet the proof is there. BOVB correspondent Larry L. has so far sent us three photos of OVs he spotted in Georgia recently (we'll publish the third here later), indicating that there are signs of human intelligence in the Peach State.

Well, America's Team really screwed the pooch last night in Nashville, losing arguable the most boring and poorly officiated game in the history of college football. In fact, the friend I watched the game with said he watched my beard turn increasingly white during what seemed like a 10-hour nightmare.

Congrats to the Gator nation on getting a new head coach, Will Muschamp from OUT (the Other UT). (Cool thing is, The Florida Times-Union actually broke the story.)

Of course, everyone's got something to say about it, though I think The Knoxville News-Sentinel's John Adams said it best tonight when he tweeted: "Tennessee now has a better head coach than Florida."

Even so, I hope the poorly Gators will accept this grotesque Gator truck (photo by photographer Bruce Lipsky) as an offering of good will from a humble Orange Nation, which knows what y'all are going through.

Well looks like Tee Martin will be back in Neyland Stadium on Saturday during the Vols season ender against Kentucky. Problem is, he's a position coach for the Wildcats. That's a bummer because Martin is the best QB the Vols have ever had. Way WAY better than Peyton Manning, who never beat the Gators and even lost to Memphis one time. Yuck. Unlike Manning, Martin took the Big Orange to the Promised Land.

Just in case I'm too busy Saturday to post...

These two images demonstrate the basic difference in intelligence between Tennessee and Florida fans. The top pic was provided by a Vols fan. It shows a truck that is Orange and white. The Orange is just true Orange. The bottom pic was submitted by a Gators fan. I suppose they think that's Orange. It's not. It's no more Orange that the color on the UF uniform. It's a light, sickly red of some kind (scientists are still trying to determine what the actual color is).

Work time for Vols

Most importantly: Let us never forget the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. Nine years ago today, at about this time, all those planes were in the air and our nation was about to be changed forever. The tragedy of that day, and of all our military losses since then, puts things like sports into true perspective.

So GoVolsXtra.com is reporting that UT's men's basketball program, more specifically its coaches, has been punished for giving false info to the NCAA. The BOVB's response: Who cares? It's basketball. The blog staff misses the day when no one even spoke about Volunteer basketball a) because it was boring and b) because it detracts from real sports like football, baseball, track and swimming.

But let's not be so negative. No, we want to begin today, the second day of the College Football Season, on a positive note. The good news is the Vols are playing No. 7 Oregan today at Neyland Stadium. W0ot! Bring on the ducks, baby! After last week's awesome opener against UT Martin (may their booboos and psyches heal quickly) Tennessee is stepping back onto the national stage. Let's all put on something Orange and root for a UT victory, y'all!

Figured it was a good pic to use to celebrate the Major League debut of former Vol J.P. Arencibia. He had a big night with Tampa Bay. One writer called it "one of the most memorable big league debuts in history." Super cool. Love to see Vols make it to the bigs.

This photo. OMG. This photo I was intending to save for the opening day of college football season, given it's awesome sweetness.

But then events just as sweet occurred this week that I compel me to publish it RIGHT NOW.

The news? Tennessee coach Derek Dooley is basically raiding the USC roster of awesome players. [Background: USC is now the home of Lane Kiffin, who bolted to the Trojans after just one year as UT's head coach. Not long after Kiffin arrived in Calif., his program was hit with major sanctions because the previous coach wasn't running the program legally, according to the NCAA.]

So I learned about Dooley's awesome thievery in text messages tonight from my pal and fellow UT grad Craig TerBlanche. A big shout out to him for making my night with texts like this:

"Dooley faxed a letter to USC letting them know which players he was recruiting. He listed every junior and senior on the roster."

OMG, too cool. Giggle.

One of those players, GoVolsXtra.com has reported, has decided to transfer.

"Dooley said today he is expecting 5 more USC players to visit Knoxville this weekend," Craig said in another text. "It's a free for all on USC talent and UT is taking full advantage."

How is this NOT karma?

Meanwhile, in football news (the time is approaching!) I loved this headline from GoVolsXtra.com: "Matt Darr, nation's top punter for 2010 class, signs with Vols."

Most college football fans don't get real excited about punters. But Tennessee fans do. We punt a lot and rely on defense to give the offense another shot at a three-and-out.

What, two BOVB posts in one day?

Heck yeah. And expect more of the same as football season draws near.

Just wanted to report a little UT news for those of you (like me) who may have missed it: The Vols nailed down an awesome QB prospect recently — and that's the best news since learning that Lane Kiffin decided to slink back to California.

GoVolsXtra.com reported that Tennessee got a commitment from a kid named Justin Worley. Scout.com raved about him recently, saying Worley "has great size (6-4) that immediately draws attention his way and he has shown good leadership as well." Reports say he turned down offers from the likes of Notre Dame and LSU to play for the Big Orange. You can read more about him HERE.

James Rink, our correspondent in Tennessee, has been on quite a roll lately.

The vehicle up top is a rural mail carrier spotted in Friendsville, Tenn. The Orange Mustang was seen in Silver Point, Tenn.

James' comment was: "This is sort of like hunting and fishing. I don't see a whole lot but I like to get them when I do."

That should be the motto of all BOVB contributors.

Black Orange Vehicle Blog

That's today's name for the blog thanks to this super-awesome-neat-totally-cool-awesome vehicle provided by my pal and Miami U grad Lauren. She spotted it somewhere in Colorado recently and posted the pic on Facebook. She asked if it qualified for the blog, given the vehicle is only a tiny bit Orange.

I say, OH HAIR YES! The Orange trim definitely quals the pic.

I've included a pic of former UT QB Jonathan Crompton in the Vols' black jerseys just in case someone wants to argue this decision.

Uh-O, Ugly-O

Orange is never ugly, except when it's on a Florida jersey (and that ain't Orange, anyway). But Tennessee's offense seems to be pretty ugly, according to reports from the recent Orange and White game at Neyland Stadium.

"There were only two touchdowns all day," The Tennessean's David Climer wrote. "Maybe the Vols are that good on defense. A more likely explanation, however, is that this team is very limited offensively, with a short-handed, inexperienced offensive line and unproven quarterbacking."

Oh well. At least the media is preparing Vols fans for what could be a difficult, ugly season. But hey, what Orange-blooded Tennessee fan wouldn't prefer to see ugly football over good hoops?

Tennessee made it to the Super 8 or whatever they call it and lost to Michigan State. Go Sparties, I say! But I add this: Who effing cares? It's basketball, meaning it's one of those filler sports that, if we're lucky, help us pass the time till football season begins. (I will add this, too: It was suuuWEET beating the Ohio State Suckeyes.)

Mark Woods: Hometown Hero

See, here's what I admire about Florida Times-Union columnist Mark Woods: He's dedicated.

Woods' commitment to journalistic excellent was on display during his recent working trip to Haiti, where he (and photog Jon Fletcher) documented a medical team's efforts to help Haitians recover physically and spiritually from the effects of the January earthquake.

But Woodsy went above and beyond the call of duty by snapping today's BOVB photo: A Vols shirt-wearing Haitian driving a three-wheeled contraption. Mark demonstrated exceptional wherewithal just to notice the shirt, and razor sharp motor skills to retrieve his camera, frame the shot and capture the pic (I'm def putting you in for a Sparkplug Award, Bubba).

Good job all around, Mark. Orange Nation is grateful.

It's almost, almost time

So there I was, fixin' to get all excited about college hoops, when I saw the following headline at GoVolsXtra.com:"UT will open with the first of 15 workouts on March 18."

That's football workouts, y'all.

And this being a very spring-like day here in NE Florida, that headline just got me all pumped again for Tennessee football. It sure will be fun to see all that get cranked up again starting in less than a month!

News that exciting deserves an equally exciting Orange vehicle or two. So check out this Vol Navy boat, docked alongside Neyland Stadium on the Tennessee River, and this UT-Orange bus spotted in Los Angeles. Both were submitted by my brother, Rodneyla.

I usually avoid mixing modes of transportation, but I'm sorta mixing hoops and football already, so why not?

Today's Gratitude Day on the BOVB. Here's a partial list of things the blog staff is thankful for on this non-college-football Saturday:

* The football off season, because it makes us realize with each passing day, week and month how awesome college football, and especially Tennessee football, really is.

* The Internet, because it has given rise to so many great ways to keep up with the Vols (or insert your fav team here). In olden times you had to live in Tennessee to get a daily dose of UT sports news. Where would we be without blogs like

* GoVolsXtra.com, VolNation.com, RockyTopTalk.com, UTSports.com, among others. They're on Twitter along with other Tweet favs like @TennesseeVols and @VolWire.

* Lane Kiffin, because he gave us just the morale boost we needed after that horrid 2007 season. He got us back on the recruiting map and set things up so Derek Dooley could come in an build a new system from the ground up. Wishing Kiffin a great career at USC. (Now we just gotta hope Dooley doesn't have a similar attraction to UGA in the event of Richt's demise there, oy.)

* This super sweet convertible Orange Ford Mustang. I found the pic on my hard drive dated mid-June 2009. Don't know how I overlooked it. Anyway, it's a beauty.

Hats off to Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley, who pulled a rabbit out of the hat with an excellent recruiting class on Wednesday. Thanks to GoVolsXtra.com for excellent coverage, including videos and stories (as usual).

Also, a thought on ex-coach Lane Kiffin: I don't have any ill will toward him for leaving the program after just one year.

@jonvines said to me on Twitter that Vols fans must be glad Kiffin is gone. I said yes, but without any anger. Think about the awesome year we just had, thanks to Kiffin. We came off that horrible 2007 season and immediately he had us laughing at Urban "Honey, I got a Headache" Whiner and the Gators and feeling all proud of the program and stuff. He gets Tennessee back on the map and turns in a winning season and then blows town for USC -- which then creates the opportunity to get what could turn out to be a coach who may truly turn this program around for the long haul.

So I say thanks to Coach Kiffin for being an excellent place holder.

National Signing Day

Well I'll be, here we are again on the eve of National Signing Day for college football and dadgum if Orange Nation ain't all a'flutter and stuff. Turns out that despite Lane Kiffin's stab-in-the-back move, the Vols are looking at 25 recruits singing on Wednesday and several of them are really solid players.

Meantime, there's other good news on Rocky Top. Tennessee's apparently hired an excellent defensive coordinator, several of our players have been invited to the NFL combine and our new coach Derek Dooley seems to just be doing a steady, solid job.

That calls for some solid Orange vehicles. So check out these pick'em'up trucks.

This Orange semi, complete with double-wide sleeper, is ridiculously awesome. Larry from up in Yulee spotted it on Jacksonville's Westside and sent it to OrangeVehicles@gmail.com on Tuesday.

What I like about it, in addition to it having the proper shade of Orange, is the black. It reminds me of the black jerseys and Orange pants the Vols wore on Oct. 31 (you can see a pic of those jerseys here here here).

I don't think I've ever seen a cooler truck. I intended to save it for a special occasion, but just couldn't wait to get it up on the BOVB. Enjoy.

All abord the O-Train!

I guess it's about that time.

Time to get on board with Tennessee's pick for football head coach, Derek Dooley.

For real, it's gotta be rough being Dooley right now. Think about how much he has to prove, coming in as a relative nobody following the high-profile departure of Lane Kiffin. GoVolsXtra.com is reporting that Dooley's already getting the third degree from media and fans curious know know if he's gonna sick around more than one season (thank goodness he said "yes").

The good news he's young, has a successful college coach as a dad (Vince Dooley) and has worked under Alabama Coach Nick Saban at LSU and at the Miami Dolphins (Click here to read David Climer's column in The Tennessean).

So it's time we all hopped on the Orange Train by getting excited about our new coach by checking out this sweet Orange locomotive provided by Larry waaaay up in Yulee, Fla. Not sure where he spotted it, but he sent it specifically "for the new coach."

Underwhelming Pride

One of the supervisors at work came up to me today and asked if I had heard that Tennessee hired Dooley as its next football coach. "Who?" I said. He told me, and then I said, "who?"

Sure enough, the new Vols head football coach is Derek Dooley (how they lured him away from Louisiana Tech I'll never know, snort).

I ask you, could there have been news less inspiring, more underwhelming than this?

But OK, we gotta give the guy a chance. So with that, good luck, Coach Dooley.

Now this Orange and white dump truck will lift many a spirit in the Orange Nation. It was provided by UT grad Logan Lark.

"I think this is a machine brought in from far away to help with the replacement of our town's boardwalk," he wrote to BOVB. " I live near Ocean City, Maryland. Anyway, since it's a garbage truck, you could maybe say you brought it in to clean up after the BOVB birthday party."

He's referring to the blog's one-year anniversary, which was Jan. 14.
