The sound of music = ugh

Well, America's Team really screwed the pooch last night in Nashville, losing arguable the most boring and poorly officiated game in the history of college football. In fact, the friend I watched the game with said he watched my beard turn increasingly white during what seemed like a 10-hour nightmare.

To cheer myself up, I'm gonna soak in this sweet Orange VW van. The photo was provided by Tracy Jones, aka Tracy.org, aka, the editor of Skirt! Thanks Tracy, you've made the big time.

new fla coach

Congrats to the Gator nation on getting a new head coach, Will Muschamp from OUT (the Other UT). (Cool thing is, The Florida Times-Union actually broke the story.)

Of course, everyone's got something to say about it, though I think The Knoxville News-Sentinel's John Adams said it best tonight when he tweeted: "Tennessee now has a better head coach than Florida."

Even so, I hope the poorly Gators will accept this grotesque Gator truck (photo by photographer Bruce Lipsky) as an offering of good will from a humble Orange Nation, which knows what y'all are going through.

one more game?

Well looks like Tee Martin will be back in Neyland Stadium on Saturday during the Vols season ender against Kentucky. Problem is, he's a position coach for the Wildcats. That's a bummer because Martin is the best QB the Vols have ever had. Way WAY better than Peyton Manning, who never beat the Gators and even lost to Memphis one time. Yuck. Unlike Manning, Martin took the Big Orange to the Promised Land.

Anyhoo, it being the end of the football season, it's time to celebrate with this Big Orange party truck spotted by BOVB correspondent Larry L. Nice.

Go Vols Beat Kentucky Woot!

I can't believe how fast the season has flown past. Wowzers. Go Vols. Here's an OV that probably goes really fast, too.

Possibly my favorite

Donna Harden provided this gorgeous Orange VW Karmen Gia. First off, this is one of my favorite cars. My parents had a blue one when I was a kid and I loved it then, and I love them now. In spot-on UT Orange, it's more beautiful than ever. This may well be my favorite of all the pix ever posted on the BOVB. Great catch, Donna, thank you!

Doing swimmingly

Football game Saturday. Tennessee v. Georgia. Blah blah blah. But there's more to life than football. Like UT swimming! It's looking good — as is this sweet Orange pimp'n machine provided by Deirdre Conner! Woot. (WTG Conner, you made it to the blog!)

It's SOCCER time in Tennessee!

I know everyone is going bonkers about Tennessee football right now. The hysteria is getting out of control. And who can blame fans for being excited about this year's team?

Giggle.

But here's something we really SHOULD be hollerin' about, y'all: Lady Vols Soccer! Oh yeah. This weekend they're taking on the women of LSU. So let's get riled up, sing a few rounds of Rocky Top and chant "It's Soccer Time in Tennessee!"

Woot!

Jeff

PS — Oh yeah, give it up for pal Shona M. for providing this week's BOVB pic. She spotted it, photographed it and submitted it to the blog. Obviously a great American!

Orange vs. um, uh....

Just in case I'm too busy Saturday to post...

These two images demonstrate the basic difference in intelligence between Tennessee and Florida fans. The top pic was provided by a Vols fan. It shows a truck that is Orange and white. The Orange is just true Orange. The bottom pic was submitted by a Gators fan. I suppose they think that's Orange. It's not. It's no more Orange that the color on the UF uniform. It's a light, sickly red of some kind (scientists are still trying to determine what the actual color is).

That is all. Go Vols, beat FLA.

Work time for Vols

Most importantly: Let us never forget the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. Nine years ago today, at about this time, all those planes were in the air and our nation was about to be changed forever. The tragedy of that day, and of all our military losses since then, puts things like sports into true perspective.

------

So GoVolsXtra.com is reporting that UT's men's basketball program, more specifically its coaches, has been punished for giving false info to the NCAA. The BOVB's response: Who cares? It's basketball. The blog staff misses the day when no one even spoke about Volunteer basketball a) because it was boring and b) because it detracts from real sports like football, baseball, track and swimming.

But let's not be so negative. No, we want to begin today, the second day of the College Football Season, on a positive note. The good news is the Vols are playing No. 7 Oregan today at Neyland Stadium. W0ot! Bring on the ducks, baby! After last week's awesome opener against UT Martin (may their booboos and psyches heal quickly) Tennessee is stepping back onto the national stage. Let's all put on something Orange and root for a UT victory, y'all!

Go Vols!!!

Jeff

PS - Oh, almost forgot. The photos. The top two were submitted by the BOVB's intrepid Yulee correspondent, Larry L. Both were spotted in Nashville. The bottom pic is provided by the blog founder's brother, Rodneyla, in Knoxpatch itself. Today's theme: Let's get to work, Vols!

Saturday, September 4, 2010

yay!!

Happy first day of college football season, everyone.

To celebrate, the BOVB proudly presents these two images provided by my brother, Rod, who lives up in Knoxpatch itself. The emblem on the hood says "Tesla," but I really have no idea what that is (maybe noted auto expert R.A. Elsea can shed some light on that for us by posting a comment below??)

Either way, it's time to start your engines cuz it's FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!

(Almost) football time in Tennessee

Holy cow . . . and just like that it's almost "Football time in Tennessee!" Which means it's time to dust off the BOVB and start weekly posts again. To start with, here's the Vols' 2010 schedule (courtesy of the folks at GoVolsXtra.com) and an Orange truck spotted somewhere in Georgia or SC by my friend Marty up in Brunswick (a Georgia fan with a secret love for the best color in the world). See y'all on game day!

Orange thing

Not a VW Thing, but some kind of other "Orange Thing," as my brother Rod said in his e-mail. (Does anyone know what it is??)

Figured it was a good pic to use to celebrate the Major League debut of former Vol J.P. Arencibia. He had a big night with Tampa Bay. One writer called it "one of the most memorable big league debuts in history." Super cool. Love to see Vols make it to the bigs.

O Karma, O Karma

This photo. OMG. This photo I was intending to save for the opening day of college football season, given it's awesome sweetness.

But then events just as sweet occurred this week that I compel me to publish it RIGHT NOW.

The news? Tennessee coach Derek Dooley is basically raiding the USC roster of awesome players. [Background: USC is now the home of Lane Kiffin, who bolted to the Trojans after just one year as UT's head coach. Not long after Kiffin arrived in Calif., his program was hit with major sanctions because the previous coach wasn't running the program legally, according to the NCAA.]

So I learned about Dooley's awesome thievery in text messages tonight from my pal and fellow UT grad Craig TerBlanche. A big shout out to him for making my night with texts like this:

"Dooley faxed a letter to USC letting them know which players he was recruiting. He listed every junior and senior on the roster."

OMG, too cool. Giggle.

One of those players, GoVolsXtra.com has reported, has decided to transfer.

"Dooley said today he is expecting 5 more USC players to visit Knoxville this weekend," Craig said in another text. "It's a free for all on USC talent and UT is taking full advantage."

How is this NOT karma?

Jeff

PS -- an irony here is that the photo was taken at the Brumos 250 in Daytona over the weekend by Times-Union photographer Bruce Lipsky, who's really made a name for himself on the BOVB. It's ironic because Lipsky is a Gators fan.

Blog welcomes OV, new punter

Here's a great OV my friend and fellow Tennessee alumn Logan Lark sent some time ago. Here's what he said: "we were about to go on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (it was on "Modern Marvels").
Also, I think the driver is Suzanne Summers (?)"

Meanwhile, in football news (the time is approaching!) I loved this headline from GoVolsXtra.com: "Matt Darr, nation's top punter for 2010 class, signs with Vols."

Most college football fans don't get real excited about punters. But Tennessee fans do. We punt a lot and rely on defense to give the offense another shot at a three-and-out.

Happy Fourth from the BOVB!

It's the Fourth of July and for a lot of folks that means being on or at least near some kind of body of water. To honor that tradition, the BOVB is happy to display these Orange watercraft. The freighter was submitted by LL up in Yulee, the motorboat by my brother who saw it at the airport in Knoxville. The houseboat up top was spotted by correspondent James Rink, who sent this pic from Louisville, Tenn. Thanks every one!

Flying High

What, two BOVB posts in one day?

Heck yeah. And expect more of the same as football season draws near.

Just wanted to report a little UT news for those of you (like me) who may have missed it: The Vols nailed down an awesome QB prospect recently — and that's the best news since learning that Lane Kiffin decided to slink back to California.

GoVolsXtra.com reported that Tennessee got a commitment from a kid named Justin Worley. Scout.com raved about him recently, saying Worley "has great size (6-4) that immediately draws attention his way and he has shown good leadership as well." Reports say he turned down offers from the likes of Notre Dame and LSU to play for the Big Orange. You can read more about him HERE.

Anyway, news like that deserved another OV pic, so enjoy this sweet F-5 fighter plane Yulee correspondent Larry L. sent a long from the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

O Train

Had to get this one up. L from up in Yulee provided it. "Spotted in Hoquim, WA. Burlington Northern / Santa Fe Railroad," the e-mail said. Love them trains.

Awesome-O 800

OVs for Old Men?

The Mustang up top was provided by faithful BOVB reader James Rink. He included this note with the e-mail: "Even as an old man, I think I would enjoy this car:) Silver Point, TN (Smithville, Crossville area)."

Sweet.

That one reminded me of a pic I snapped out front of the Target on Roosevelt a few weeks ago (bottom pic). I think that's a Trans-Am or Firebird??

Anyway, is it football season yet?

Straight from Tennessee itself

James Rink, our correspondent in Tennessee, has been on quite a roll lately.

The vehicle up top is a rural mail carrier spotted in Friendsville, Tenn. The Orange Mustang was seen in Silver Point, Tenn.

James' comment was: "This is sort of like hunting and fishing. I don't see a whole lot but I like to get them when I do."

That should be the motto of all BOVB contributors.

Thanks for another great round of pix, James. Keep 'em coming.

It has little wheels on it. It's Orange. Hence.
