Gettin' on the (Big Orange) Bus

The BOVB usually gets updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

But today I am so pumped that I just had to put Monday's post up a day early!

Causing this jolt of Orange adrenaline this morning is a Web site posted on Twitter last night by VolPress, with the headline "Thinking of Tennessee football."

To be honest, I haven't really even clicked on any of the links on the site yet. What got me all fired up is the constant playing of "Rocky Top" and "Immigrant Song" coupled with images of UT's players and new coaching staff.

After watching -- in person -- the baseball Vols choke 10-2 to the Gators in Gainesville yesterday, this Web site was the perfect tonic.

The flip side, tho, is that I can't get any work done (Hey, you try reading students' papers comparing Hinduism and Islam with Rocky Top blaring out of your computer. It's impossible).

But who cares!?

So come on, now, Orange Nation! Let's all get on the (big Orange) bus and get pumped for Tennessee football!

Jeff

PS -- that's a Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus I spotted at the University of N. Fla. a couple weeks back. It's bedecked in Hooters ads!

Thrown under the bus

Now, this is a real drag. The Florida Times-Union is reporting that WFXJ 930 AM sports broadcasters Robert Lamm and Joe Cowart were sacked on Monday. Apparently it was due to budget cuts resulting from the ongoing economic meltdown.

Obviously I'm not in charge of the station's balance sheets, but I can't imagine how getting rid of these guys is going to help any station's bottom line for very long. Their show was a funny and local take on local, state and national sports. It was the only reason I tuned in.

Since Cowart and Lamm were thrown under the bus, I figured it was appropriate to roll out this big Orange bus. I photographed it in November 2008, just outside Neyland Stadium moments before the ill-fated Tennessee-Wyoming homecoming game.

But just as the Vols' 2008 meltdown brought us Lane Kiffin and dramatic off-season news, this bus reminds us there is an Orange lining to every cloud.

Or at least we hope so.
